"In my work," says Beatris Burgoin, "I try to capture a feeling of life. An idea catches my attention, circles my mind, and inspires me to create. My goal is to conceptualize and manifest it. If I’m 'right,' when all is going well, I feel a clear, peaceful connection. It feels like I’m channeling something beyond me; all I need to do is get out of the way.
"I love color, how it changes with light and how light makes it come alive. I use oils most of the time. I like them for their buttery texture. Plus they dry slowly. This allows me to pause the process and begin again with, perhaps, a fresh perspective. I sometimes use a brush, but mainly, I use a painting knife. The knife allows me to bring clean and vibrant color, as well as texture, to the canvas."
